School's out for summer

Hey Reader, School's out for summer and I don't know about you, but as much as I love my family, already I can feel myself craving the solitude and structure of my normal routine. The one that gives me space to plan, to practice, to think, and to put pen to paper in the quiet pockets of the day. But... that will have to wait until September. For now, all I can do is try my best to go with the flow. And here's my plan for that: RISE and PRACTICE with me! PJ Yoga all summer long! Three mornings...

Yoga, in your PJs

I don't know about you but it has been a week. Honestly, it was one of those weeks where the practice had to come off the mat more than once just to keep me sane. If you caught my reel earlier this week, you know what I mean. Five minutes away from my laptop and onto my mat, a few stretches, one very well-timed dog visit, and I was a completely different person. That IS the practice. Not the perfect hour. Just five minutes when you need it most. In the live-classes this week, we moved through...

The view at La Solitude in NB

Good morning Reader , I was on my mat every day this week, both for my own practice and my teaching one. But the moments that really stuck with me most weren't the experiences on the mat. They were in my foggy midday walk along a rocky shoreline, where the only thought I had was: one step, then the next, in the direction I want to go. They were the sidelines of my son's soccer practice, where mindfulness looked like nothing more than noticing how I was standing there are the observer. They...

Michelle's Home Yoga and Meditation Practice Space

It's been a full week. Not just inside AUM@home, but out here in real life too. The kind of week where you find yourself thinking it's Friday when it's only Wednesday, and you've crossed off almost everything on your daily to-do list, and then some. Like extra workouts and meditation sessions, long conversations with good people, soccer practices, awards ceremonies and band concerts, extra writing time, new recipes and little mindful mom-moments in unexpected situations. Like agreeing on a...

Seriously. Are you showing up for yourself? It's a question I've been sitting with a lot lately and why I chose to theme June with practices that support you showing up for no-one other than yourself. Called tapas in Sanskrit, this is the disciplined action you take to support your whole body wellbeing each and every single day. For me, that happens through my morning meditations and PJ Yoga sessions that help me start each day with intention. I also make sure I get outside and walk in nature...

Full moon in May

Hello hello Reader May ends this Sunday with a full moon display (I hope the weather clears enough so we get a glimpse of it!). The older I get, the more I look to the moon and night sky with wonder. And I love it when the lunar cycle lines up with the monthly calendar. It feels like the perfect punctuation for a month ending and an opportunity to let the moonlight illuminate the space and place that have been shrouded in the dark. And to clear the air before turning the page. A FULL MOON...

What a laundry basket, a childhood memory, and a Taekwondo taught me about obstacles

Hello hello Reader What a wonderfully sunny week it's been here where I live. And even though know how much the sunshine boosts mood and energy, I'm always surprised by how much easier it is to get up and going when the sun is out. Now that's not to say I'm as chipper as the early bird, but this week I've hit the snooze less times than last week and that's a win in my books And speaking of evading the alarm, this month's theme of Obstacles I'm noticing is showing up everywhere. In the office,...

Close up of a lady bug

NEWSLETTER Hello hello Reader The other day I was getting ready for Taekwondo training when a ladybug flew out of my neatly folded uniform. I had no idea what it was at first but my mind doing its mind-things, jumped to conclusions. Deciding in an instant that it had to be something bad, I actually caught myself feeling disgusted and mildly scared at what it might be. In the five seconds it took me to figure out what it was, I had gone from fearful surprise, to something close to disgust, to...

Private cabin while on Yoga retreat with me in New Brunswick

There aren't many things in life that go exactly as planned. More often than not, something comes up or gets in the way of best laid plans and intentions. Sometimes it's big. But more often it's small hiccups. → You meant to call the clinic and forgot and now it's closed. And it's the weekend. → You're standing in front of the mirror second-guessing the outfit you were so sure about in the store. → You drifted off thinking about a weekend getaway right in the middle of your boss asking you...

That's me. Roughly ten years old. When I learned that the last time May 1st, Beltane, and a full moon all landed on the same day was 1988, it stopped me in my tracks. I was immediately transported back to this little girl. The joy she had. The friendships. The creative things she practiced freely and, if I'm being honest, was rather good at. She wasn't getting in her own way yet. But somewhere along the way, that changed. I'm not sure exactly when, how or why it happened. I don't quite...
