Seriously. Are you showing up for yourself? It's a question I've been sitting with a lot lately and why I chose to theme June with practices that support you showing up for no-one other than yourself. Called tapas in Sanskrit, this is the disciplined action you take to support your whole body wellbeing each and every single day. For me, that happens through my morning meditations and PJ Yoga sessions that help me start each day with intention. I also make sure I get outside and walk in nature as much as possible each day. I've also started practicing mini foot massages, or what's called abhyanga in Ayurveda, every evening before bed. And writing. I've been journalling daily, and when it feels right expanding my thoughts and publishing pieces over on the Blog and on Substack. Putting words to the page has been so clarifying in so many ways. I actually kind of forgot how helpful a journalling practice can be. None of these are dramatic. And none of it takes hours. But all of it is deliberate. And that deliberateness, that disciplined act of choosing yourself again and again, is exactly what tapas is about. Furthermore, it's one of the most powerful ways I know to support physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, on and off the mat. This is how we've been practicing it together: → Monday was Core Yoga, built entirely around Tabletop position and designed to be sectioned for daily practice. → Tuesday evening was Yin. It was slow and spacious, focused on the chest, shoulders and side body all in an effort to promote taking a deep breath. → And Thursday morning I recorded a body scanning meditation you can do seated, lying down, or honestly, standing in line at the grocery store. All three are available in the library, ready when you are. And tomorrow, Saturday morning at 8:30am, a Mindful Flow class together. Come as you are. Tired, energized, somewhere in between. Just come. Showing up is the whole point AND the practice. Lastly, the retreat at La Solitude in NB August 7th to 9th is filling up. We already have a handful of beautiful souls registered. Hey Reader, School's out for summer and I don't know about you, but as much as I love my family, already I can feel myself craving the solitude and structure of my normal routine. The one that gives me space to plan, to practice, to think, and to put pen to paper in the quiet pockets of the day. But... that will have to wait until September.
