Something I/we don't talk about enough 🫣

Hello hello Reader ,

I want to share something a little personal with you today.

I know what it's like to cough, sneeze, laugh too hard, or chase the dog around the yard and feel that quiet embarrassment that so many of us carry around without ever saying out loud. Incontinence is one of those things women often live with in silence, assuming it's just part of the deal after having babies, or getting older, or simply being a woman with a busy body and a full life.

It doesn't have to be.

What I've come to understand, through years of practice and study, is that the pelvic floor is not something we have to simply accept as weakened or unreliable. It's something we can actually work with. Gently, consistently, and without a lot of drama. I know because over the course of the last 3-4 years, this work has genuinely changed my life.

This month inside the AUM@home Community, we've been exploring the theme of the Core & Pelvic Floor. In each class, I've shared bits and pieces of my own pelvic floor rehabilitation and core strengthening practices that have helped me almost completely overcome it. We've moved through inner thigh strengthening, Yin twists that support digestion and elimination, breathwork practices that tone from the inside out, and this week, something called Ashwini Mudra.

Ashwini Mudra is a yogic practice of rhythmic pelvic floor contraction and release, woven together with the breath. It is quiet, subtle, and something you can do anywhere. Nobody around you will even know. And practiced consistently alongside everything else we've been building this month, it genuinely delivers.

All joking aside, if you or anyone else you know has experience the dread or embarrassment of leaking in the worst possible moments, I'd love for you to see and explore the practices for yourself.

Hello hello Reader , Happy first day of spring! I enjoy winter, I really do. But this morning, as I stepped outside for my walk, a red-breasted robin was singing high up in the tree, and I have to say, I felt genuinely grateful for the signs of a new season. Spring doesn't always look the way we expect it to, and there is actually snow in the forecast here today, which made me laugh. Also, on my walks this week, I've noticed how the tree tips are starting to look fuzzy and new growth is...

Good day, good day Reader , This time last week I was completely knocked down by a nasty flu. Fever, chills, headache… it was one of those bugs where you go to bed feeling fine and then somewhere in the middle of the night you wake up and know you're in for it. For three full days it was couch to bed, bed to couch, sipping water and broth, allowing my body the time it needed to rest and recover. It wasn’t how I would have planned to spend the week, but sometimes the body makes decisions that...

Good morning Reader I have a little confession to make... I am completely obsessed with the Winter Olympics. So much so there have been times these last couple of weeks where I've had multiple events streaming at once on different devices so I didn't miss anything. I even streamed the women's curling match the other day while I had the dog out for a walk at Point Pleasant Park. So much for one-pointed focus, eh? And as I’ve watched these incredible athletes compete, it hit me how powerful and...
